Janet has a substantial amount of experience with facilitation that she would like to pass on to you during this conversation. Through your questions, you will learn the sources of conflict in a team setting, the benefits of conflict, how to tell the difference between a debate and an argument, and how to foster healthy debates among team members.

Unit 2: Handling Difficult Team Members

  • Avoid conflict with a team's leader.
  • Use a communication process to minimize interpersonal conflicts.
  • Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you will meet with John Cunningham, one of Icon's Human Resources Assistants. Since John has a strong background in the area of facilitation, he is anxious to pass his knowledge on to you. Through your questions, you will learn the main types of difficult team members, the most effective techniques used to facilitate difficult team members, and the techniques used to avoid conflict with a team's leader.

You are all members of a team responsible for developing a new training program for Icon's sales force. During this meeting, you will act as the team's facilitator. Your job is to recognize and overcome the team members' resistance to facilitation.
