HIPAA Training Course on CD-ROM
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
The Administrative Simplification provisions of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA, Title II) required the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish national standards for electronic health care transactions and
national identifiers for providers, health plans, and employers. It also addressed the security and privacy of health data. As the industry
adopts these standards for the efficiency and effectiveness of the nation's health care system will improve the use of electronic data interchange.
The Administrative Simplification Compliance Act (ASCA) amended the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and requires that all claims submitted to Medicare on
October 16, 2003 and beyond be done so electronically except for certain circumstances
HIPAA Training Course
Personal privacy is now a major issue to people, particularly where medical information is concerned. This course presents an overview of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, outlining
the main components and identifying who is covered by the act. This course examines the privacy provisions under HIPAA for patients and employees involved with covered entities. Under the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, covered entities are now expected to provide notification to individuals before the routine use of health information. HIPAA offers patients the right to a copy of
their medical records, to request amendments to them if necessary, and to know the history of disclosures. This course helps covered entities recognize the key provisions, how their organizations
are affected and how the privacy rules impact upon them. The course also explains their notification requirements and the penalties of noncompliance. Our Legal Compliance courses are developed and
maintained with subject matter support provided by the Labor, Employment, and Employee Benefits Law Group of the law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA.
Topics covered include:
- Privacy Rules
- Electronic Health Data Transactions
