• In this simulation, you will meet with Elizabeth Thomas in Finance to discuss operating budgets. Liz will discuss the different components of an operating budget
, how to classify costs, and how to create an operating budget. Throughout your conversation with her, Liz will ask you questions to gauge your understanding of operating budgets.
Unit 2: Manufacturing Budgets 0.5 - 1 hour
• Identify four sections in a manufacturing budget. • Identify examples of flexible budgeting. • Identify methods used to create a manufacturing budget.
• Identify a variance as either a volume or a rate variance. • Identify types of information that can be determined from a manufacturing budget. • Simulation Overview:
• In this simulation, you will meet with Ronald Spear, one of Icon's accountants who works with manufacturing budgets in Icon's Home Appliances Product Group.
Ron will discuss the sections of a manufacturing budget, methods used to create one, and what types of information can be determined from a manufacturing budget
. Throughout your conversation with him, Ron will ask you questions to gauge your understanding of manufacturing budgets.
Unit 3: Forecasts, Variances, and Action Plans 1 hour
• Identify a variance as favorable or unfavorable and positive or negative. • Using variance information, evaluate and brainstorm solutions to a performance issue. • Classify variances.
• Determine the causes of variances. • Address problems identified by variances. • Identify four methods of addressing performance problems. • Simulation Overview:
• In this simulation, you will meet with Cacey Graves, a young accountant who is handling her first budget. She has discovered a few variances in her budget, and
has come to you for advice. You will need to help her determine what might be causing the variances and how to address the problems that have been identified by the variances.
