  • Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you will be meeting with Greg Avery, Icon's Engineering Manager, to discuss communications planning for the video -conferencing project. As the Project Manager, it is your responsibility to work with Greg to determine the information requirements for Phase I of the project, which will link the New York and Dallas offices. You will also determine the means of communication to be used, identify communication constraints, and develop a communications management plan.

Unit 2: Distributing Information

  • Determine which form of communication to use when distributing information.
  • Actively encourage informal communication.
  • Calculate the number of lines of communication within a given situation.
  • Reinforce information distributed during meetings.

  • Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you will be meeting with Monica Washington, one of Icon's Information Services Editors, to discuss distributing information. Through your questions and her answers, you will identify why information distribution is important, how information should be distributed, and how to identify barriers to effective communication in meetings.

Unit 3: Performance Reporting

  • Differentiate between a progress report and a status report.
  • Conduct successful performance reviews.
  • Classify different kinds of performance reports.
  • Evaluate a project's performance by using earned value analysis.
  • Avoid problems frequently encountered during progress reporting.
  • Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you will be meeting with Travis Peterson, Icon's Director of Information Services, and Elizabeth Williams and David Morris, both Icon engineers. You are informing them of a change planned for Phase II of the project: Travis is going to assume responsibility for implementing the video -conferencing software in Icon's satellite locations. As the Project Manager, it is your responsibility to help the team identify problems with the change, brainstorm solutions for any problems, and reaffirm the project's goals.

Unit 4: Concluding a Project
Duration: 0.5 - 1 Hour(s)

  • Complete close-out reporting during administrative closure.
  • Ask questions to determine when a project should be terminated.
  • Identify different ways a project can be terminated.
  • Write a comprehensive final project report.
  • Simulation Overview: In this simulation, you will be meeting with Janet Porter, Icon's Director of Business Development. She will be giving you a series of exercises to identify your knowledge of how to conclude a project. Through her questions and your answers, you will learn how to identify when a project should be terminated, the different ways in which a project can be terminated, and what information should be included in the final project report.
